Last Major US Bicycle Maker Outsourcing to Asia
Bedford, a small town on the Juniata River in southern Pennsylvania’s Allegheny Mountains, has been the manufacturing center for the Cannondale Bicycle Company, the biggest remaining producer of bicycles made in the USA. But VOA’s Barry Wood reports from Bedford that a big change is in the works, and it is not a good one.
Cannondale will now use Asian slave labor to make bikes at 1/4th the cost, but still charge the same prices for their bikes.
so there s no reason to purchase a cannondale. just another frame made in china

Wow, talk about the destruction of a formerly fantastic brand name. I guess now I can finally start my business of making hand made aluminum framed bicycles……..and just think I learned to mig weld about 3 weeks ago. Just need to learn to Tig weld now and I can corner the market. Bad move! The corp. Dorel must not understand what customer loyalty is all about………oh well.
tragic, the same happened in the uk with raleigh, holdsworth, dawes, sturmey archer etc. and your right, the product will end up as a supermarket brand.
cannondale will be built 100% in taiwan. and will be designed and engeneered by a unified conglomerate that designes mongoose, gt, and schwinn. dorel is a digusting company. and im not even politically against all outsourcing entirelly. its the fact that they are outsourcing 100% and designing and engineering them by the same people that make mongoose. dont buy a cannondale and it hurts me to say that because i love my cannondale. but 2010 on they will be sweatshop garbage like mongoose.
