Not-bothered, but those are mostly telemarketing and IT jobs anyway.
It is not about being bothered or not; its a reality and the reason the issue has no political weight is that nothing can be done about it.
Look; a company outsources its jobs to India and lays off its engineers here. The company goes on; and the lawyer here, the accountant here, and the sales staff here all keep their jobs. 3 jobs are kept and maintained thanks to the outsourcing.
Alternative a company says, no, I’m going to continue paying a 1.5 per square foot rent, pay my engineers $75k a year, and go on….9 months later their $995 software package is undercut by a French company offering the same kind of software for $199….so this company goes broke and the building is vacant, and the lawyer, accountant and sales rep are out on the street with the rest.
Outsourcing is business survival – do it and stay in business – don’t and go out of business. That simple. Either way jobs are lost….one way more jobs are lost.
A lot of companies that outsourced to save money have found their public image has been tarnished as a result, and are taking the phones back in house where they can be answered correctly.
I think customer service is starting to suffer. I had a problem with an application I was upgrading and had to call and speak with someone. Usually no problem. I was frustrated. I could not get through the thick accent. This is not a slam to any foreigners. This is a slam to the company. They are cheap, they are sacrificing customer service for $$. This is happening more and more. I am finding it more and more in my field of Information Technology and help desks).

I do know that a number of companies, especially those who have outsourced customer services, are beginning to rethink … in Britain I know of at least 5 companies who have closed their customer services section in India and relocated back to Britain because of numerous complaints about not understanding what the agents are telling them …
Here in California, I know a LOT of people who have lost their jobs to outsourcing. I think it is a crock! I am personally sick and tired of calling a company and getting someone who speaks very poor English and has no idea of the different phrases we use.
I see the work going to India and a lot to Mexico!
Don’t like it. What is the purpose other than more money for the companies they represent. I don’t see where it helps the citizens here.
