When will corporations realize that the word outsourcing is another word for poor quality?
It may look good on someone’s bottom line – and I am sure some exec somewhere is getting rewarded – but it is compeltely unfounded. Outsourcing only diminishes the quality of not only customer service but the product itself. Outsourcing in all forms should not be rewarded.
Outsourcing is crap plain and simple. The process of repeating myself indefinitely in plain english is not appealing and is highly unproductive. In terms of utilizing experienced professionals online or otherwise from other countries is in no way related to outsourcing. Outsourcing is the process of hiring people from another country simply to exploit a workforce at a lower wage in order to somehow raise the profits of your company. This is not a generalization. This is a fact plain and simple. It is a very stupid thing to do. Lower wages = lower quality – plain and simple.

Dell found that out when their service techs in India kept on telling everyone that they needed to re-install the operating system to fix any problems.
If it’s not closely monitored, you’re right. There are also instances when this leads to higher quality and delivery speeds. In the insurance industry, we outsource medical records collection to third parties. If the insurance companies were in charge of this themselves, we’d be lucky if they followed up once a week. The companies that do this for a living know that if they don’t have their act together, we’re going somewhere else.
Computer programming is another example, but it all depends on how closely it is monitored.
I totally disagree with you. Outsourcing is a way where a company can get help for a project or product or service. A lot of companies including the government use outside expertises. Example, Xbox ID was developed by an outside source not by Microsoft. iPod ID was also done that way. Some of the automobile designs were done by outside firms. A lot of the electronics and designs on the Space Shuttle were outsourced. Outsourcing sometimes cost more but it is not a long term expense. Some customer services are done in Philippines and in India. They are very successful and effective. Any good executives must consider those options and not jump to conclusions.
When you encounter poor quality due to outsourcing; it is the poor management of the company’s executives not the outsourcing. There are good and bad outsourcing like any businesses. The key is proper analysis and management.
Outsourcing does not always give lower quality.
- In customer service for example, the Indians are far more polite and patient than the Americans and afterwords inquire how you liked them.
– The Chinese produce goods of half the quality but at one tenth of the price.
– And how do you find the quality of Japanese cars compared with the American gas guzzling junk?
Like all generalizations, yours is none sense.
