In the past, outsource jobs typically were of low skill requirements. However, now the tides have changed and many jobs once belonging to white collar Americans have moved overseas.
CH2M Hill, a global full-service engineering and operations firm, is looking at India’s cheap labour market to help it tide over the economic downturn at a time when projects themselves are drying up. “The logic is simple, design big projects at minimal cost,” said Deepak Bhasin, MD, CH2M Hill.
Lower wages for skilled IT workforce is driving the IT outsourcing market in India. The increasing productivity in developed countries and the rising salaries for IT workers in India may nullify the cost advantage in the future.
