Due to understaffing the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is forced to hire immigrants on temporary work visas to fill correctional officer positions. TDCJ is unable to staff their prisons even in the middle of a recession. Texas ranks number 49 out of 50 states in state correctional officer pay. Texas needs to stop outsourcing labor and approve the 456 million in pay to hire US workers.
